BRIDGE OF EARN — Councillors have approved the return of a filling station to Bridge of Earn, described as a “vital necessity”, ending years in which locals burned petrol driving elsewhere to buy petrol.
“It’s been a cruel cycle,” said one resident. “You run low, so you drive to Perth to fill up, and by the time you get there you need to fill up again. It’s the Broxden of fuel.”
Residents are preparing for a new era. “I’m going to fill up and just sit there,” said one pensioner. “Not go anywhere. Just enjoy the feeling of a full tank and a short walk home.”
Local taxi drivers called it “the best thing to happen to the village since the 20mph signs, and those took us six months to drive past.”
