When Ewan McGregor was asked about his favourite ride, he chose the one that ends at his mum and dad’s house in Crieff. It has had a heart-warming effect on Perthshire.
Several local parents say their adult children have phoned them since the story appeared. “Our boy phoned yesterday from Glasgow,” said a Methven man. “He doesn’t phone. He texts. He phoned. He said, ‘Dad, I’m coming up on Saturday for a cup of tea.’ I’ve had to sit down.”
A woman in Auchterarder said her daughter had sent her a link to the article with the words “I’ll come up soon”. “She won’t, but it’s the thought,” she said. “Actually, she might. She’s asked if I’m still doing the soup.”
Family psychologists agree that a regular visit home is good for everybody, and that a cup of tea is a better gift than anything you can buy.
The Perthetic would like to remind all readers that it is never too late to go home for a cup of tea. Your mum will be pleased to see you. She will also tell you that you look thin, ask if you’re eating properly and send you home with a carrier bag full of tins. That is how you know it’s love.

Read this out to my son on the phone. He said ‘aye very good’. He’s in Bankfoot. Fourteen miles.

My mum’s had the kettle on since Friday on the off chance. That’s a long time for a kettle.
