Hibernian have edged past Hearts in the Edinburgh derby semi-final and will play Rangers in the League Cup final.

In Perth, the city’s neutrals watched with interest, and one of them with a level of commitment that has worried his family.

On Saturday a Perth man told the Perthetic that he would be supporting “whoever’s losing at the time”. He kept his word. “I was Hearts, then Hibs, then Hearts again, then I was Hibs for about four minutes, then I had to go and sit in the car,” he said. “I’ve never been so tired. I think I’ve supported both of them more in one afternoon than most fans do in a season.”

His wife said he had changed his scarf three times and “shouted at the dog in two different accents”.

A Kinross woman, whose husband supports Hearts and who supports Hibs, said they had watched the game in separate rooms as promised. “It worked very well,” she said. “He’s still in his room. I’ve left a sandwich outside the door.”

The Perthetic wishes Hibs well in the final and advises Perth’s neutral man to support Rangers or Hibs from the start, and to stick with it, for his health.

  1. I support whoever’s not from Edinburgh. Which was neither. I watched the darts instead.

  2. My husband supported both and has had to lie down in a dark room.
