Green Party Says It Is ‘at a Crossroads’; Perth Points Out It Has Lived at Broxden Roundabout for 50 Years and Would Like to Offer Some Tips

The party is debating which way to go next. Perth drivers say the trick is to pick a lane early, indicate clearly and never, ever look at the person from Fife next to you.

The Green Party has been described as being “at a crossroads”, as it debates its direction ahead of the next elections.

Perth, which has the Broxden roundabout, regards a crossroads as a beginner’s junction.

“A crossroads? Four directions? Luxury,” said a Perth driving instructor. “Broxden has six exits, two sets of lights, a lorry from Aberdeen and a man in a Corsa who’s going round for the third time because he missed the A9. If you can do Broxden, you can do anything. The Greens should come up and have a shot.”

The instructor offered three tips for any political party at a crossroads. “One: pick your lane early. Two: indicate, so everybody knows where you’re going. Three: don’t stop in the middle to have a meeting about it.”

A Tulloch woman said she would happily vote for any party that promised to sort out the cycle lane at the top of Glasgow Road. “Green, blue, red, tartan, I don’t care,” she said. “Whoever fixes that, they’re getting my vote and a tin of shortbread.”

The Perthetic wishes all parties well at their various crossroads and reminds them that, in Perth, if you go round enough times, you will eventually end up back where you started, which is also politics.

The views expressed are those of the reader, and frankly that's on them.

  1. If you’re at a crossroads you’re lucky. At Broxden you’re at a circle and you’ll be there till Tuesday.

  2. Take the third exit. It’s always the third exit. Never trust the second one.
