There is good news for Blair Atholl this winter: the village’s new bakery, a branch of Livvi’s Little Lunchbox from Dunkeld, says it will stay open through the colder months.

Villagers say it will make a big difference. In past years, the local café has closed for the winter, leaving residents and visitors with few places to grab a hot bite or a chat.

“It’s not just about the food, although the food is very good,” said a Blair Atholl woman. “It’s somewhere to go. You go in for a roll, and you come out knowing who’s had a new grandchild, whose roof is leaking and whose dog got out on Tuesday. That’s community.”

Walkers, cyclists and drivers on the A9 are also expected to stop in. “Highland Perthshire needs places that stay open,” said a Pitlochry man. “Every one that opens year round helps the whole area.”

The Perthetic wishes the new bakery a busy winter, and the village a warm one.

  1. Proper winter jobs in the village. That’s the best news we’ve had since they fixed the bus shelter.

  2. My nephew’s got a start. He’s been told he has to be up at four. He’s still in shock.

  3. Lovely to see a business backing the area. Now, about the macaroni pies…
