Tonight will be clear, with a touch of frost and temperatures falling to around zero, the Met Office says, meaning Perth will wake up on Monday to its first proper scrape of the season.

“I had an ice scraper,” said a woman from Scone. “I put it somewhere safe in March. That’s the problem. I always put it somewhere safe. I’ve never found anything I put somewhere safe.”

Perth drivers have a range of methods for dealing with a frozen windscreen. A Letham man uses a CD. “It’s a Simply Red album,” he said. “It’s the only use I’ve found for it.” A woman from Kinnoull uses a supermarket loyalty card, “because I’ve never used it for anything else.”

Experts warn against pouring boiling water on windscreens. Perth residents say they know, but it’s very satisfying.

The frost should clear quickly in Monday’s sunshine. The ice scraper will be found next July, in the glovebox, under a map of the Highlands from 1997.

The views expressed are those of the reader, and frankly that's on them.

  1. My ice scraper broke last winter. I’ve been using a CD. It’s a Daniel O’Donnell. Works a treat.

  2. Hot water on the windscreen. My dad did it, his dad did it. I’ll keep doing it and I don’t care what the internet says.
