Perth Shoe Shop Could Become Escape Rooms; Customers Say They Have Been Trying to Escape the Fitting Stool Since 1987
Plans would turn the former shop into puzzle rooms. Veterans of back-to-school shoe shopping say the hardest puzzle was always 'is that a half size?'

A former Perth shoe shop could be turned into escape rooms under new plans, and people who spent their childhoods being measured in it say the conversion is “basically already done”.
“Every August I was locked in there for an hour,” said a Bridgend man. “My mother on one side, a woman with a foot-measuring machine on the other. The only way out was to say the shoes didn’t pinch. That’s an escape room.”
Escape room fans say a shoe shop is ideal. Clues could be hidden in shoeboxes, the code could be a shoe size, and the final puzzle would be finding the matching left foot.
“You’ll get 60 minutes,” said one enthusiast. “That’s about how long it took to find school shoes my mum thought were sensible and I didn’t think were embarrassing. Nobody ever solved that one.”
If the plans go ahead, the first room is expected to be called “Try The Other One On”.

The puzzle I could never solve was getting my mother to agree to the ones with the light in the heel.

An escape room where you can only leave after saying ‘they’re fine, honestly’. I’ve done that one.
