Ewan McGregor has said his favourite bike ride is the trip to his parents’ house in Crieff, and Strathearn’s cyclists have taken the news to heart.

“I’ve waved at four men this morning,” said a Comrie cyclist. “One was him, possibly. One was a farmer. Two were the same man, who went past twice because he forgot his phone.”

Café owners on the route are getting ready. A Crieff café has put a sign in its window saying “Jedi Welcome — Bikes Out Back”, and a Gilmerton tearoom is said to be working on a “Phantom Menace” traybake, though staff admit they “aren’t sure what’s in it yet”.

Locals say the star’s choice shows good taste. “Of course his favourite ride is to his mum’s,” said one Crieff woman. “Everybody’s favourite ride is to their mum’s. There’s soup at the end.”

Mr McGregor’s parents have not commented. We assume the kettle is on.

The views expressed are those of the reader, and frankly that's on them.

  1. I’ve seen him. I think. He had a helmet on. They all have helmets on.

  2. Everybody’s favourite ride is to their mum’s. He’s just the first one to get a newspaper to write it down.

    — Stuart H., Comrie, 31 October 2026
  3. The Phantom Menace traybake is caramel and regret. I’ve had two.
