The Perth Suncream Kiosk, a small stall near the bus station that opened in spring last year selling sun protection, has closed after a season described by its owner as “educational”.

The kiosk sold factor 15, 30 and 50, alongside sunhats, after-sun and small battery fans. In its first full year of trading, it sold four bottles of suncream, nineteen umbrellas (an emergency diversification) and one fan, which was returned.

Its owner, a cheery optimist from Kinross, had hoped to “ride the warming trend”. Perth’s weather, she said, “did not ride with me”.

In a cruel twist, today — with long sunny spells and a top of 14°C — would have been one of the kiosk’s better days. It was by then a phone repair stand.

The Perth Suncream Kiosk is survived by a box of SPF 50 that expires in 2028, and hope.
