Perthshire’s autumn colours are putting on a final show, with today’s sunshine lighting up the beeches, larches and birches from Dunkeld to Loch Tummel, and visitors are being urged to get out before the first frost on Sunday night.

“It’s been a long autumn this year,” said one Pitlochry café owner. “The trees have been going for weeks. They’re like a band doing encore after encore. Monday morning, I think the frost will turn the lights on.”

Visitors reported the Hermitage at its best, and said the larches on the hills above Aberfeldy had gone “a sort of Irn-Bru colour”. Tourism bodies say this is an official term.

Photographers are advised to visit early, as the light is best in the morning and the car parks are best before 10am.

Anyone visiting from Texas is reminded that in Perthshire, leaves fall off trees. It is perfectly normal and there is no need to call anyone.

No letters yet. The town is uncharacteristically quiet.
