Perth Curlers Welcome Sunday Night Frost as ‘Practice Conditions’; Car Windscreens Disagree
Temperatures fall to around zero. Curling fans hope for outdoor ice, motorists hope for a working de-icer, and nobody gets what they want.

Perth’s curling community greeted the news of a frost on Sunday night with quiet enthusiasm, after the Met Office forecast lows around zero and the first proper icy morning of the season on Monday.
“It’s not cold enough for the outdoor ponds, obviously,” said one veteran skip, “but it’s the right direction. You’ve got to encourage it.”
Motorists across the city took a different view and began their annual search for the ice scraper, which was last seen in March and is believed to be somewhere under a picnic blanket in the boot.
One Scone driver said he planned to use a CD case “like my father did, and his father before him”. His teenage son asked what a CD was. Both are now refusing to speak to each other.
Curling clubs reminded members that sweeping is an excellent form of exercise and can be practised at home with an ordinary brush, ideally in the kitchen, ideally while someone else is cooking.

No letters yet. The town is uncharacteristically quiet.
